Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8030This work addresses the critical analysis of large urban projects (GPU) in the Metropolitan Region of Belém (RMB), using geoprocessing and political ecology as methodological tools. The main objective is to spatialize and analyze the damages and risks to environmental health resulting from the implementation of these projects, such as BRT, industrial districts, landfills and macro-drainage. The research highlights how these ventures, despite boosting urban development, often ignore the complex interaction between social, environmental and political aspects, resulting in deforestation, loss of biodiversity, pollution and increased risk of flooding. In addition, traditional communities are disproportionately affected by the negative impacts of these projects. The methodology used involved a bibliographic survey, analysis of geographic data and preparation of maps using QGIS software. The critical analysis of the projects was carried out from the perspective of political ecology, which seeks to understand the power relations that influence the appropriation and use of natural resources and urban space. The research results demonstrate that GPUs in RMB generate significant damages and risks to environmental health and local communities, revealing the socio-environmental inequalities and injustices resulting from these ventures.
