The study begins from the perspective that we currently live in a connected world where visual resources and the exchange of information are constant. In this context, data, charts, and statistics are everpresent, and statistical literacy emerges as an essential skill for active participation in society. A qualitative research approach was undertaken, involving the application of a didactic sequence in a multigrade Youth and Adult Education (EJA) class at Esmerina Bou Habib School. The sequence consisted of 24 objective questions divided into two thematic blocks, addressing social and environmental topics based on reliable sources. The analysis of results employed elements of simple statistics and was interpreted through a qualitative lens, focusing on students’ difficulties and understanding of their experiences. The findings indicate that while most participants are capable of literal readings, such as identifying explicit values and data, performance drops significantly at more complex levels that require abstraction, comparison, and critical analysis. This was observed in both graph reading and table interpretation, with particularly low scores in questions classified as reading beyond the data and advanced-level reading. An intergenerational analysis also revealed that younger participants tend to perform better at intermediate levels, while adults and the elderly are concentrated at elementary levels. In conclusion, the findings reinforce the importance of incorporating data reading practices from early schooling and promoting continued education strategies for adults and seniors. Statistical literacy is not merely a technical skill but a tool for intellectual and social empowerment that should be fostered by society.Acesso AbertoLetramento estatísticoLeitura de gráficosLeitura de tabelasEJAMathematics didacticsInvestigative practicesConceptions of errorTeacher educationCNPQ::CIENCIAS EXATAS E DA TERRA::MATEMATICAIndícios de letramento estatísticos de jovens, adultos e idososTrabalho de Curso - Graduação - ArtigoAttribution-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazil
