This analysis is framed against the backdrop of the forced imposition of religion and cultural norms by Portuguese colonizers. The introduction of Catholicism, however, did not occur uniformly, as various indigenous and African spiritual practices persisted in different regions. From this standpoint, the research analyzes Visagens e Assombrações de Belém (1986), by Walcyr Monteiro, and Contos Amazônicos (1893), by Inglês de Sousa, with the aim of understanding how these narratives construct and reflect the lived experiences and cultural imaginary of the people of Pará. Monteiro is primarily concerned with preserving the oral tradition and fantastic storytelling of Belém, while Sousa, adopting a Naturalist approach, emphasizes the tangible presence of supernatural elements in the everyday life of the Amazonian caboclo. Although both authors engage with the same universe of beliefs and legends, their approaches differ: Monteiro through cultural preservation and the valorization of popular memory, and Sousa through a more subtle integration of these beliefs into his literary exploration of Amazonian society. The study thus demonstrates that, despite the Catholic imposition, myths and legends have endured as essential components in shaping the cultural imaginary of Pará, reinforcing the cultural resilience of Amazonian communities.Acesso AbertoMitosLendasImaginárioCulturaAmazôniaMythsLegendsImaginationAmazonian cultureResistanceCNPQ::CIENCIAS HUMANAS::HISTORIA::HISTORIA DO BRASIL::HISTORIA REGIONAL DO BRASILMitos e religiosidades: a construção do imaginário cultural e social paraense nos contos e lendas de Inglês de Sousa e Walcyr MonteiroTrabalho de Curso - Graduação - MonografiaAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazil
