To better understand their formation, it is necessary to understand the production stages of large and small saline companies, as well as the methods used to purify this product. As it is an important export product produced on the Brazilian northeastern coast, it is necessary to understand the mineralogical and chemical characteristics of halites during the crystallization process in artificial lakes with macroscopic and microscopic analyzes, in addition to analyzes that allow the identification of the main ions present in its crystalline structures, in this case, ion chromatography. According to the updated concept of mineral, minerals produced by human influence are not considered natural, leading to the nomenclature “synthetic mineral”. However, the halites produced in the northeastern artificial lakes have no direct influence on crystallization, resulting in a conflict between classical and modern concepts within the study of mineralogy. Thus, this work presents bibliographic surveys, macroscopic and microscopic descriptions, and ion chromatography analyzes to identify chemical substances present in the structures of halite samples taken from crystallizers in the region of the Municipality of Macau-RN, in order to classify the type of salt , understand the stages of the production process and advance in the knowledge of synthetic industrial minerals such as halite produced in salt pans. The halite collected in the region of Macau - RN is equivalent to sea salt marketed as “salt flower”. An unrefined salt that is crystallized in small layers in artificial lakes and has the main composition of sodium chloride, potassium chloride, magnesium, calcium, iron and manganese.
