The aim of this work is to identify the sectors of the Mocajuba estuary, northeastern Pará, and whether it can be sectoralized due to its sedimentological characteristics. From this, our hypothesis is that the Mocajuba estuary may be sectorized as to its sedimentological characteristics and that it will be possible to distinguish its marine, intermediate and fluvial sectors. The applied technique is the Sedimentary Sectorization. The adopted analytical proceedings are granulometry; quantification of organic matter content and calcium carbonate; and statistics treatment, through Cluster Analysis and Principal Components. We obtained three groups: group 1, groups very fine sandy fractions (57%), poorly selected, negative asymmetry and moderate hydrodynamics. The mean percentage of muddy was 9.39%, MO with 0.67% and CaCO3 with 6.24%. Group 2, groups the medium (45.5%) and coarse sandy (31.8%), moderately selected sandy fractions, positive to very positive asymmetries and high hydrodynamic. It presented the average values of: 5.8% of Lama, 0.68% of MO and 6% of CaCO3. Group 3, shows the highest sample number, represented by medium (43.8%) and coarse silte (28.6%), poorly selected, positive to very positive asymmetries, and moderate hydrodynamics. The mean percentage of Lama was 83.71%, MO 0.75% and CaCO3 with 9.38%, and reached a maximum in this group of 20.98% CaCO3. However, when proposing sedimentary sectorization from statistical tools, we observed obstacles that masked the limits of each sector. Hence, the Sedimentary Sectorization through the statistics was limited and did not allow the application of the estuarine models to Mocajuba. Initially we attribute this difference to 1) Statistical method used. However, we observed that this method is widely used in several estuaries as well as can be applied to the estuary Mojuim, adjacent to Mocajuba. Therefore, we refute this hypothesis and consider that 2) the Mocajuba estuary has a differentiated configuration. Therefore, this configuration can be the consequence: of the estuarine evolution; of the low river supply; of the high marine influence; and of the straight channel orientation, possibly shaped by the presence of a tectonic failure and tidal action. We conclude that it is not possible sectorize Mocajuba estuary from its sedimentological characteristics.Acesso AbertoOceanografiaEstuáriosSedimentologiaRio Mocajuba - PAAmazônia BrasileiraCNPQ::CIENCIAS EXATAS E DA TERRA::OCEANOGRAFIALimitações da setorização sedimentar do estuário MocajubaTrabalho de Curso - Graduação - Monografia
