Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8915The aim of this work is to discuss the production of Amazonian space based on the narratives and experiences of migrants who arrived in the region during the construction of the Transamazon Highway, as well as the discrepancy between the expectations fuelled by government propaganda and the reality they encountered when they settled in the region. Based on this, the municipality of Brasil Novo, and more specifically the Santos Dumont community on Vicinal 19, is analysed. The government's advertising promises in the mid-1970s were based on encouraging migration based on a discourse that it was necessary to ‘make Amazonia’. The construction of the highway not only represented a transport route, but also symbolised progress towards what they considered to be evelopment.
