Acesso em:.http://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/987This work aims to analyze the main characteristics of sediments from the upper continental slope, off the border of the states of Pará and Maranhão. Two Piston core type samples were analyzed, obtaining data of carbonate, organic matter, granulometric parameters, and stratigraphic profiles. The results showed that the silt fraction dominated by silt fraction (69% in T61 and 89% in T62), with lower values of clay (23% in T61 and 10% in T62) and sand (8% in T61 and 6% in the T62 titer). The carbonate values presented a mean of 30% in the T61 titer, and 6% in the T62 titer. The levels of carbonate and mud made it possible to obtain three different facies. The analysis made it possible to infer that the sediments from the Pará-Maranhão continental slope were submitted to relatively high hydrodynamics of continental origin.
