Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/10251This study aims to develop a clinical care manual for the students and supervisors participating in the extension project Temporomandibular Disorder and Orofacial Pain (TMD/OP) of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), guiding and standardizing them for better patient care. A bibliographic research was conducted using the PubMed, SciELO, and CAPES databases, with the purpose of carrying out a literature review to obtain a theoretical framework. The manual was produced in e-book format and developed with clear and cohesive language, providing information about the patient care flow, therapeutic approaches for the most common and frequently observed cases in the project, including complementary procedures and techniques for the fabrication of occlusal appliances and their proper maintenance, aiming to be a viable approach considering the economic profile of the patients assisted at the UFPA School of Dentistry. The literature emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach for the treatment of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMDs), with the use of occlusal appliances as a major noninvasive tool for improving pain conditions. However, it is clear that the use of appliances alone does not produce complete effects, requiring integrated methodologies that encompass pharmacology, physical therapy, Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as proper use of imaging examinations for better visualization and confirmation of diagnostic hypotheses.
