Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8832This research aimed to analyze the mediation of literary reading for social protagonism in two reading rooms located in the Quilombola Community of Guajará-Miri, in the municipality of Acará, Pará, with an emphasis on identifying and describing the history of the rooms' creation, their objectives, and the activities developed to disseminate and expand reading development. This is descriptive, qualitative research using a case study method, focusing on the reading rooms of the Santa Marta and Cruzeirinho I Municipal Schools. The results highlight the main challenges encountered in both spaces, which are similar in both schools: the precarious facilities, limited collections, and the absence of a librarian. The conclusion is that the lack of libraries and reading rooms in Quilombola schools negatively impacts reader development. Furthermore, the absence of collections that enhance quilombola culture can also impact self-definition, the appreciation of culture, and the effective democratization of reading and information. Reading mediation occurs based on the cultural aspects of the subjects.
