Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/10064The health of riverside populations has been increasingly discussed in the national scenario, especially regarding the implementation of basic assistance policies, which has had a positive impact on the lives of such people. However, there are a set of issues that need to be overcome in order to provide health services to these people. Factors such as geographic location, the volume of rivers, and professional’s availability to work in these areas are the main setbacks to expand primary health care to the most isolated communities within the Amazon region. In addition, another highly important aspect that must be considered is to make sure the professionals assisting the population are able to not only serve, but also to connect to the local’s culture and tradition, through the incorporation of their scientific knowledge into local’s medicinal and culinary plants. Hence building trust, responsibility, and professional bond with the patient. With regard to dental services, there is a major problem to be overcome. Our literature review points out that riverside populations tend to look for dental assistance mostly for curative procedures with dental restoration treatments and extractions. Furthermore, the lack of public policies to raise awareness regarding dental hygiene, so that the community itself has enough information for basic self-care, creates a serious public health problem in these regions. Rehabilitation treatments such as dental prostheses and endodontics were not evident, which increases, even more, the need for including conservative and other treatments in those regions. Regarding the studied population, they usually lack information on health care, especially oral care. Low education levels and socioeconomic vulnerability are common traits in such communities. Moreover, it was found that men tend to seek fewer services than women and, as for those who seek it, the prevalence is among the youngest.Acesso AbertoSaúde da população ribeirinhaSaúde de ribeirinhosSaúde bucal de ribeirinhosOdontologia na Zona ruralHealth of riverside communitiesOral health of riverside communitiesDentistry in the countrysideCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE::ODONTOLOGIASaúde bucal de populações Ribeirinhas: uma revisão integrativaTrabalho de Curso - Graduação - MonografiaAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazil
