Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9462Meandering rivers are dynamic and exhibit constant geomorphological evolution, especially those in the Amazon region. This study was motivated by the silting of the Maracaçumé River in front of the city of Cândido Mendes and the resulting environmental problems a natural geological phenomenon that occurs in meandering rivers after a sinuous bend is cut off. The objective of this research was to analyze the silting process in the waterfront area of the city of Cândido Mendes, Maranhão, following the cutoff of the meander. The city is located on the banks of the Maracaçumé River, in the coastal zone, in the northwest of the state of Maranhão, within the Legal Amazon region. For the development of this study, both bibliographic and field research were conducted. The study materials included satellite images available on the Google Earth Pro and EOSDA Landviewer platforms, as well as photographs from local residents' collections and the author's personal archive, in addition to a news report denouncing illegal mining activities along the riverbanks, 11 km upstream from the city. The results indicate that the abandoned meander region is undergoing a process of infilling colmation. Notable features include the formation of sandbanks in front of the fishing port. There is still the presence of vessels in the area of the former passenger port; however, the relocation of the port to another site has generated additional costs for the population, especially for those living in rural areas who depend on the port for mobility. The geomorphological transformations observed in the abandoned meander area are expected to worsen if the municipal administration continues to neglect the implementation of measures that could mitigate the environmental problems along the city’s waterfront.Acesso AbertoCândido Mendes (Ma)Rio MaracaçuméRompimento de meandroAssoreamentoMaracaçumé RiverMeander cutoffSiltationCNPQ::CIENCIAS HUMANAS::GEOGRAFIA::GEOGRAFIA REGIONAL::ANALISE REGIONALO processo de assoreamento do Rio Maracaçumé em frente à Orla da cidade de Cândido Mendes-MaTrabalho de Curso - Graduação - Artigo
