Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/2110The event that formed the Igneous Province of Paraná corresponds to one of the major episodes of fissural magmatism occurred in a continental crust environment. The geological context of the region where it was placed records a sequence of peculiar geological events, such as Late Paleozoic glacial cycles that covered the paleocontinent Gondwana with extensive ice sheets. These series of glaciation cycles are recorded in the sedimentary sequences of the Itararé Group, contained in the Paraná Basin. The occurrence of glaciation cycles had an important effect on the lithospheric region that contained the Paraná Basin, since these ice addition and subtraction sequences had a direct effect on crustal isostasy, causing vertical movements to accommodate the accumulation of material and mass developed by the glaciers, a phenomena called lithostatic rebound. This same phenomenon can be observed in other regions of the planet, at different geological times. Due to this event reproduction, models used to study this phenomenon in one place, can be adapted and applied in other geological environments with occurrence of lithostatic rebound.
