Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8628The theme of this work is to investigate how the dissemination of reading occurs through a community library located in Belém do Pará, which also acts as a cultural space. As a general objective, the research discusses the important social role of the community library Espaço Cultural Nossa Biblioteca in the dissemination of reading among teenagers and young people in the neighborhood of Guamá. As for procedures, the research is basic in nature and uses field research as a method, with a qualitative approach. In this way, the data were collected within the Community Library space, in the peripheral neighborhood of Guamá, located in the capital of Pará. A categorical content analysis was also adopted, for a better understanding of the phenomena analyzed in this research. As results, the research identifies that the dissemination of reading occurs mainly through reading circles, as well as the fact that the ECNB community library is inspiring the lives of adolescents and young people by making them understand their social protagonism and rights as citizens, capable of reading and understanding the problems present in the social context in which they find themselves, and being able to act actively in society based on the different perceptions created through reading. It is concluded, therefore, that cultural spaces and the community library are important allies to disseminate and promote reading in the periphery. The research also highlights that mediators are essential figures in reading practices, as their role within the community library space is of great importance.
