Focusing on negation as a key element in communicative structure, we investigate its various forms, including those that do not follow conventional grammatical patterns, known as non-canonical negations. These forms, often used in everyday language, lend greater expressiveness to discourse, reflecting the speaker’s intent to emphasize ideas and adding emotional impact to communication. A prominent example of non-canonical negation is the expression “nem fodendo” in Brazilian Portuguese, particularly popular among younger speakers in informal contexts and on social media.
