It represents an important social indicator, as it promotes food security, generates income and jobs, and helps many families remain in their home regions. This study's main objective was to analyze the socioeconomic effects of the opening of fishing in the Goiabatuba River on the riverside community of Igarapé-Miri, seeking to understand how this practice influences subsistence and social organization. The research adopted a qualitative approach, based on two main pillars: bibliographical research and field research, using semi-structured interviews with fishermen working on the Goiabatuba River, Igarapé-Miri. The semi-structured interviews included five interviewees, all directly involved in fishing on the Goiabatuba River in Igarapé-Miri, ranging in age from young adults to more experienced fishermen. It can be concluded, therefore, that fishing on the Goiabatuba River is a pillar of the social, economic, and cultural organization of the Igarapé-Miri community.
