Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/10270This study consists of an integrative literature review aimed at analyzing the main challenges related to the implementation of oral health education strategies targeting Brazilian Indigenous children, as well as identifying potential areas for improving these actions. A systematic and retrospective literature search was conducted between February and October 2025 across the SciELO, PubMed/MEDLINE, and Google Scholar databases, in addition to open-access scientific journal portals. The search strategy utilized controlled descriptors combined with the boolean operator AND, resulting in the selection and critical analysis of 15 publications that comprised the final sample. The results showed that the epidemiological profile of severe childhood caries among Indigenous populations is strongly influenced by nutritional transition and the accelerated introduction of ultra-processed industrialized foods. Systemic obstacles were identified and categorized into structural barriers (such as high professional turnover and geographical isolation), cultural barriers (the gap between the Western biomedical model and Indigenous cosmologies), and communication barriers (the absence of bilingual pedagogical materials). The primary opportunities to overcome this scenario include transitioning to approaches based on interculturality and cultural safety, producing customized educational resources, strengthening academic training focused on Indigenous health, and empowering Indigenous Health Agents (AIS) as essential mediators between healthcare teams and communities. In conclusion, the success of promoting child oral health and ensuring equity within the Indigenous Healthcare Subsystem (SASI-SUS) depends on moving past coercive models, requiring continuous actions that value traditional knowledge and foster active community participation.
