Acesso em:https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9653Dalcídio Jurandir Square, opened in the 2000s in the Cremação neighborhood, was designed to create a space that integrated memory, leisure, and culture, connecting to the deactivated Cremação de Lixo plant, a historic landmark in the neighborhood's development. However, 24 years after its inauguration, the underutilization of the largest remaining building, which spans the entire square, has intensified social problems that persist in the square to this day, such as drug use by homeless people, animal abandonment, and improper waste disposal. This, combined with the poor maintenance of public facilities such as the lighting system, street furniture, and leisure facilities, compromises the use of public space, negatively impacting residents' experiences in this area. According to the article “Espaços Públicos de Lazer na Promoção da Qualidade de Vida: Uma Revisão Integrativa " (SILVA et al., 2013), leisure spaces play an essential role in promoting health, as they revitalize and promote well-being in urban environments, enabling people to adopt healthy habits and contributing to the emotional, social, physical, and cultural aspects of individuals. In this context, to overcome the current abandonment and underutilization of Dalcídio Jurandir Square, the need arises to develop a preliminary architectural design for a cultural center that would adapt to the remaining buildings of the former crematorium plant, a heritage site listed by FUMBEL.
