Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8184This article presents a study on the management of açai groves and the effects resulting from the “açaização” process in the Furo Vilela Community, in the municipality of São Sebastião da Boa vista, Marajó island, Pará. Ten families were interviewed, using a semistructured interview script, whose results were analyzed with the support of descriptive statistics. The main results denote that intensive management is predominant over other forms of management (light and moderate) and generates unsustainability for families. This technique provided food insecurity and, in the short term, improved family income, a fact that is not sustainable in the medium and long term. Thus, the main effects resulting from the “açaização” process in the Furo Vilela Community are related to food and nutritional insecurity, a decrease in income during the açaí off-season and environmental degradation.
