This study presents a discussion on the effects of excessive use of these devices on the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of children, based on a survey of academic productions available in institutional repositories and national scientific databases focusing on the areas of health, psychology, and education, conducted between 2019 and 2024, in institutions such as the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), and the State University of Rio Grande do Sul (UERGS). This is a bibliographical study, characterized as a state-of-the-art review, addressing childhood in an urban context, considering the sociology of childhood. The general objective was to understand and analyze the impacts of the use of electronic devices on child development. The specific objectives were: to analyze the repercussions of the use of electronic devices in the daily lives of children aged 8 to 12 years old attending early childhood and elementary school; and to evaluate the consequences of screen time for children. In this sense, four undergraduate theses from pedagogy courses related to the central theme of this study were analyzed. The results indicate that early and intense exposure to screens can cause several negative factors for children, such as sleep disturbances, difficulty socializing, visual problems, and impairments in the learning process, including delays in literacy, as well as behaviors similar to disorders such as ADHD and ASD, a phenomenon associated with regarding "electronic autism," screen time tends to reduce family and community interaction, intensifying childhood isolation, whereas conscious use can promote learning, broaden cultural repertoires, and develop cognitive skills.Acesso AbertoDesenvolvimento infantilTecnologias digitaisAplicativos móveisTempo de telaChild developmentDigital TechnologiesMobile applicationsScreen timeCNPQ::CIENCIAS HUMANAS::EDUCACAODispositivos eletrônicos nas infâncias: a influência da tecnologia no desenvolvimento da criança no contexto urbano.Trabalho de Curso - Graduação - ArtigoAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazil
