The Brazilian legal system has a number of laws that make accessibility a right to be observed, especially the 1988 Federal Constitution and the Statute for People with Disabilities. In addition to these laws, this article also examines the set of norms indicated by the educational institution as the foundation of the parameters to be followed to safeguard the right to accessibility, which are discussed individually in a separate section. Linked to these normative provisions, doctrine is fundamental for understanding terms intrinsic to the discussion, which is why the concept of accessibility, its dimensions and other correlates were addressed. The main aim of this study was to assess whether the Belém Campus of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) currently represents an environment that is accessible to the proportion of students who are disabled, as required by law. In addition to the legislative and doctrinal analysis, the methodology of this article also used an opinion poll of disabled students at UFPA Belém, carried out via Google Forms. The survey targeted the UFPA bus terminal, the university restaurants, the Central Library, the classroom blocks in the basic sector and the Mirante do Rio, as well as the Bettina Ferro de Souza University Hospital.
