Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/10224This paper aimed to investigate the conceptions of sports competition and violence in sports among physical education teachers in the Castanhal school network. To achieve this objective, the dialectical approach was used as a methodological basis and a structured questionnaire made available on the Google Forms platform as a research tool. Sixteen questionnaires were answered by physical education teachers who work in the city's public network. It was found that more than half of the professors have more than five years of experience in the area, in addition to additional studies in the area through postgraduate courses. It was possible to understand that all teachers believe that the themes “violence and sport” should be worked on in the school environment, but not in a disciplinary way, but permeating the other disciplines, being an interdisciplinary theme and with greater scope for students. In addition, the teachers interviewed believe that school competitions go beyond the practice of sports and competition in a sports modality, but that they include the implementation of other aspects worked on in classes, such as cooperativism, citizenship, socialization, among others. Finally, all teachers were able to report some experience of violence involving sports, where part of these did not only involve students such as fans, parents, among other actors. I conclude by saying that sport in the school context needs to be developed with a multicultural perspective, in a variety of manifestations, thus increasing the possibilities and sports and social skills of students, encouraging teamwork, leisure, respect and non-violence.
