This research adopted a qualitative approach with a bibliographic focus, in which data were obtained through searches on the Google Scholar portal, using search filters. The first filter involved the use of search terms to locate works, with keyword searches being employed. Additionally, a temporal cutoff from the years 2020 to 2025 was applied, aiming to bring updated data on the topic and compose the results and discussion section of this research. In this study, we engaged with authors such as Lopes and Mendes (2023), Ranzan, Costa, Denari (2020), Cunha (2017), Soares (2020), Leal, Pimental, Matos (2024), Piozevan and Vilaronga (2025), among others. For data analysis, Bardin’s (2016) content analysis technique was applied. The results indicate an overlap of responsibilities in the work of this professional, leading to functions beyond those stipulated by law. Another recurring issue is the gaps in the training of these professionals, particularly regarding special and inclusive education.
