This study presents a detailed case analysis of the thermal load in an engineering office located in the city of Belém, in the state of Pará, Brazil. The office has a total area of 58.77 m², with its façade oriented to the east. The study was conducted in accordance with the guidelines established by standards ABNT NBR 16401:2024 and ABNT NBR 16655:2019. The calculations considered various modes of heat transfer, including thermal conduction through opaque surfaces, heat gain from solar radiation, thermal load due to air renewal, infiltration of external air, as well as internal loads from occupants, lighting, and equipment. The total thermal load calculated was 65,601.41 BTU/h. It was found that the primary source of heat gain was thermal conduction. Based on this finding, a comparison was made between the calculated results and the performance of the equipment installed in the environment, revealing an undersized HVAC system. The results highlight the importance of proper HVAC system sizing to ensure thermal comfort, energy efficiency, and indoor air quality.
