Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/4624The traumatic brain injury is a important entity of raised morbi-mortality in our way. The higt incidence of this event between the pediatric band is well-known and that can vary since light accidents, with minimum consequences to the patient, until more serious cases, that can provoke permanent damages, even death. Given the importance of the traumatic brain injury, some studies have been made, in order to elucidate it’s aspects epidemiologists, to provide the possibility to trace strategies to reduce it’s occurrence and morbi-mortality. However, few are the studies that focus exclusively the pediatric band, and of these, we find some difficulties of analysis, due to an inexistence of a standardization of the gotten data. Such fact motivated the accomplishment of a descriptive, prospective work, with sampling of the children with maximum12 years of age, that had suffered traumatic brain injury and had been taken care of in the Hospital of Emergency of Belém - Mário Pinotti, in the period of January to August of 2005, with the purpose of analyzing the diverse aspects involving the epidemiology of the traumatic brain injury, so that, knowing better such event, have subsidies to search ways to reduce it’s occurrence and consequences. Using the data of the traumatic brain injuries and excluding the decurrent cases of the childbirth, 183 cases were gotten. From all, 57.37% were of the masculine sex; and in relation to age, 68.76% had between 0 to 04 years and 11.38% were lesser of 1 year. It was observed that the children with less than 10 years had reached high percentages (94,53%). The falls had been the main causes of traumatic brain injury (41%), being that the stairs falls had appeared with the greater percentile between all the other causes (28,96%), and in 64,16% of the cases these stairs did not had railing. If considered the traumatic brain injury suffered outside from house, it was observed that the falls had constituted the most important group of accidents. When the responsible ones had been questioned the previous occurrence of traumatic brain injury, of the total 183 cases, 62.8% had told at the moment of the attendance that it was the first time. In relation to the passed time since the moment of the trauma until the initial attendance, this was minor of 30 minutes in the biggest part of the cases, corresponding to 24,6%. The age of the responsible one at the moment of the traumatic brain injury of bigger prevalence was between 21 to 25 years (32,2%). In relation to the sex of the responsible one, 87.4% were of the feminine sex. Being that the mothers were the responsible ones at this moment in 56,3%. These data allow to know the different types and the causes of accidents allowing to indicate important beepers for programs of prevention of these injuries.
