Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9342This article aims to analyze the socio-spatial and historical configuration of neighborhoods located around the Altamira Stream, in the municipality of Altamira, Pará, highlighting urban, environmental, and social transformations before and after the implementation of the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Power Plant. The research seeks to understand how these neighborhoods were configured before the project, considering their riverside characteristics, urban growth patterns, and infrastructure conditions, especially in vulnerable areas. The study is based on bibliographic and documentary research, with contributions from Milton Santos, Henri Lefebvre, David Harvey, and Corrêa, addressing the unequal production of urban space and the dynamics of urbanization and territorial displacement. Results show that, prior to the construction of the dam, neighborhoods like Açaizal, Tufi, and the Rua do Ferro Velho had strong community identities and close relationships with the Xingu River, but were disrupted with the forced relocation of families to Collective Urban Resettlements (RUCs). While these new neighborhoods provided basic infrastructure, they failed to preserve social networks and territorial identity, leading to social fragmentation and emotional impacts.
