The study is based on a qualitative, exploratory methodology and field research, including an on-site visit and interviews with staff responsible for the collection. The research initially analyzed magnetic and digital media, identifying the main strategies used for the preservation of this material, and subsequently discussed the data obtained at TV Cultura. The study identified strengths related to the existence of basic preservation actions within the collection, such as access control to documents, climate control through air conditioning, and the adoption of initial digital preservation strategies through the duplication of part of the collection and its storage in a storage system, thereby reducing the handling of original media. As for weaknesses, limitations in infrastructure and the obsolescence of playback equipment were identified, in addition to the lack of institutional policies for audiovisual preservation at the site. Based on these findings, an increase in public investment for the collection is recommended, particularly in the hiring of additional archivists, the creation of large-scale and long-term projects for magnetic media, and the digitization of the archive, with the aim of consolidating and ensuring the continuity of preservation, conservation, and access policies for the collection.
