In this sense, the ceramics industry in Pará is highlighted because, in addition to promoting regional economic growth, it also generates employment and income for the state's communities. In addition, considering the high rates of iron and steel production in the region, it can be seen that waste is generated from these manufacturing processes, such as electric arc furnace dust (EAP), which comes from the manufacture of steel in electric arc furnaces from molten pig iron and scrap metal. The aim of this work is to investigate the incorporation of steel mill dust into formulations with kaolinitic clay from the municipality of Acará-PA, with a view to using it as an input in the production of materials with characteristics suitable for technological application in red ceramics. To this end, three different formulations were investigated, with different concentrations of steel mill dust and clay from Acará. The test specimens made up of the materials in question, after being pressed under a load of 250 kgf/cm2, were subjected to the firing process at 900°C under different sintering times — 60 min, 120 min and 180 min — after which the ceramic properties were evaluated. Finally, the comparison between the results presented by the samples with different formulations showed that the formulations with 10% and 20% steel mill dust have potential viability for incorporation into red ceramics, as they meet the parameters of ceramic properties of loss on ignition, apparent porosity, linear shrinkage, specific mass, water absorption, and mechanical strength, as established by standards ABNT NBR 15270/2023 and ASTM C674-13/2018. In addition, the variation in the sintering time of the specimens was fundamental in establishing the desired properties, namely: water absorption, loss on firing, apparent specific mass, apparent porosity, linear shrinkage and flexural strength. Finally, it can be concluded that the results presented can be considered promising for the application in question.
