Acesso em:.http://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/1601This research presents the behavior of the Amazon River plume and the distribution of water masses in Amazon Continental Shelf through hydrographic data collected in North III Operation of REVIZEE Program, in Amazon river maximum discharge period, on board of “ANTARES” Oceanographic Ship. The temperature and salinity data analyzed in this research was collected from CTD Sea-Bird, model SBE9 and, in laboratory, was constructed the maps of horizontal and vertical distribution with the Surfer 8.0 software and Excel for the T-S diagram. The salinity was the parameter that presented the major variation and that determined the characteristics of plume and water masses. From the data analyzed it was possible to observe that the amazon river plume reaches more than 220km wide in front of the river mouth and narrow to northwestward, keeping 18 m thickness almost constant. Was identified and characterized three water masses: Costal Water (CW), Mixed Water (MW) and Tropical Water (TW). The results proved that the strong presence of CW in this region justified by the maximum discharge period of the river and its relationship with other importants meteorological factors that increase rainfall and the river outflow, for example, the Intertropical Convergence Zone and La Niña periods.Acesso AbertoMassa de águaPlataforma ContinentalRio AmazonasCNPQ::CIENCIAS EXATAS E DA TERRA::OCEANOGRAFIATrabalho de Curso - Graduação - Monografia
