Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8535This work aimed to analyze the challenges and conceptions of public high school students in Santa Luzia do Pará (Pará, Brazil), regarding the Theory of Evolution. Through questionnaires, a certain trend in the acceptance of the theory of evolution was observed. It was noted that one of the main obstacles is the lack of knowledge or misunderstanding of the fundamental theoretical aspects of evolution. The students demonstrated an understanding of concepts from Lamarck's theory, such as the law of use and disuse and the inheritance of acquired traits. In Darwinian theory, students showed certain difficulties with concepts such as natural selection and genetic variation. Regarding speciation, there is a tendency to adopt the creationist theory, thus denying that humans have a common ancestor with monkeys. When discussing human evolution, students tend to favor religious over scientific conceptions. A complex and multifaceted panorama is observed regarding the acceptance and understanding of the theory of evolution. The research revealed that although there is a general trend towards the acceptance of the theory of evolution, there is substantial resistance. The results of the research indicate the need for a more efficient and integrated pedagogical approach to teaching biological evolution.
