Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/7822With the advance of life expectancy, linked to the fall in the mortality rate and decline in fertility, population longevity has been the subject of extensive studies, especially in the tangent to health aspects. In this context, it is important to clarify that, combined with population aging, there is a high prevalence of Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases. Aiming at the physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being of individuals, Palliative Care emerges as a multiprofessional care approach, which aims at horizontal, holistic and humanized care with patients and their families. To this end, it is essential that health professionals are prepared to deal with patients who need such care, as well as to help family members in the face of adversity. This study aimed to evaluate the level of knowledge of the students of the Faculty of Medicine of the Federal University of Pará on the theme of Palliative Care; to identify if at the end of the course the medical students developed Competencies necessary for the development of palliative actions; to explain if at some point in the graduation, topics were worked on such as: communication of bad news in front of the patient in palliative care and his family, communication between the multidisciplinary team, management of pain and the main complaints of patients in palliation; to compare the cycles of graduation (basic, clinical and internship), in order to verify whether or not there was a progressive construction of knowledge related to palliative care; to contribute to the institution of a culture of continuing education in palliative care in medical graduation, as well as to the consolidation of institutional policies of professional development Of the students of the researched university. An analytical, observational, cross-sectional, descriptive and quantitative study was carried out through the application of a questionnaire formulated with questions arising from patterns of previous studies. The questionnaire was applied virtually, through the Google Forms platform, and in person, in scenarios of students' practices and classrooms of the Faculty of Medicine of Pará. The target population of the research were the 940 academics of the course, enrolled from the 1st to the 6th year, belonging to the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the Federal University of Pará. The questionnaire applied contained three parts. In the first part there were questions regarding the sociodemographic characteristics of the participants: age, sex, religion and the period they are studying. The second part contained a self-assessment on palliative care, based on an instrument previously validated in Colombia, adapted with five closed questions with two answer options: yes and no. Finally, the third part gathered information about specific knowledge in palliative care, through an instrument validated in Japan, adjusted with twenty-two questions that included six domains: philosophy, pain, dyspnea, psychiatric problems, gastrointestinal problems and communication, with three options for answers: true, false and "I don't know". As a result, the low number of correct answers in the questionnaire was denoted, signaling the inefficiency of teaching aimed at palliative care.
