Aims: Evaluate the influence of polishing and the application of neutral sodium fluoride on the enamel after bleaching with 35% hydrogen peroxide (HP 35%) containing calcium on the substrate microhardness and surface roughness. Methods: Fifty healthy bovine incisor teeth were used, divided into 5 groups (n = 10): G1- negative control; G2: tooth bleaching; G3: tooth bleaching + coronal polishing with diamond paste; G4: tooth bleaching + topical application of fluoride; G5: tooth bleaching + coronal polishing with diamond paste + topical application of fluoride. The microhardness and roughness readings were performed on the same specimens, at times T0 (before treatments) and T1 (at the end of the 3 whitening sessions). The data showed normal distribution (Shapiro Wilk test) and the t test for related samples was performed with a significance level of 5%. Results: Lower values of roughness (with statistical difference) were found in G3, G4 and G5, with a lower average in T1 in G5. There was a reduction in microhardness for all evaluated groups, which was not statistically significant in G1 and G5. Conclusion: Topical application of 2% sodium fluoride and enamel polishing after tooth whitening decreased the surface roughness and microhardness of the substrate. However, the topical application of fluoride seems to provide better results in relation to roughness when compared to the polish of the enamel.Acesso AbertoClareamento dentalEsmalte dentalFluoreto de SódioDurezaPropriedade superfícieTooth bleachingDental enamelSodium fluorideHardnessSurface propertyCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE::ODONTOLOGIAInfluência do polimento e aplicação tópica de fluoreto pós-clareamento na microdureza e rugosidade superficial do esmalte dentalInfluence of polishing and topical application of post-whitening fluoride on microhardness and surface roughness of dental enamelTrabalho de Curso - Graduação - ArtigoAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazil
