The increasing difficulty in identifying reliable sources stands out due to the information-saturated environment, which leads to the need for specific skills and competencies to evaluate information. General objective: To investigate the role of the librarian in mediating information and promoting information literacy within digital social networks. Methodology: This is an exploratory research with a qualitative approach, using the Bibliographic Research method, with data collection in the Information Science Database (BRAPCI), with selection criteria of publications from 2019 to 2024 and specific keywords, to analyze the role of the librarian in mediating information literacy in this scenario. Results: The analysis revealed that the role of the librarian goes beyond library management, encompassing educational training actions with users in order to discern between true information and misinformation. The relevance of the research is corroborated by the evident need for interdisciplinary collaboration between librarians, educators and other professionals in the fight against disinformation. In addition, the work highlights the importance of educational programs and materials that promote awareness about disinformation and recommends continued training for librarians, covering not only technical skills, but also cultural and communication skills, in order to prepare them for the contemporary challenges of the information society. Final considerations: Librarians should be seen as effective mediators and agents of change, capable of promoting a fairer and more critical information environment, highlighting the need to reevaluate the training and qualification practices of these professionals so that they can act strategically in a constantly evolving digital world.
