For this, ensuring the whiteness of the ore is an essential factor. However, impurities minerals such as iron and titanium oxides may have significantly altered this property. In this context, the present work aimed to concentrate and evaluate the residual anatase in kaolin coating through an alternative chemical method. This method consists of the alkaline hydrothermal transformatioin of sodalite from the kaolin and, later, the acid leaching of this sodalite. It was possible to obtain a concentrate that was characterized by XRD, FRX, SEM-EDS, The best synthesis conditions were 2 g, 180°C at 4 h and both were satisfactory. From the concentrated material it was possible to detect other minerals of impurities: rutile and muscovite. These minerals, because they were low in kaolin, were not previously observed. Through the SEM-EDS, it was observed that the anatase presents hemispherical morphology, and sporadically truncated bipyramidal forms. The proposed interpretation is that these nanometric grains of anatase are present in "pockets" covered by kaolinite. By the spectrophotometry the solubilized Ti was analyzed along the proposed concentration process. It was not possible to conclude whether this Ti was solubilized in the hydrothermal synthesis stage or in the acid attack. By the Rietveld method, the anatase content in the concentrate was estimated in 89.1%.
