Many diagnoses are performed in advanced stage, reflecting a large number of people with oncological processes that are unavailable for curative treatment and who require palliative care. Those who are in palliative care are commonly found in the hospital setting because of the need for intensive care, and hospitalization causes various changes in occupations, modifying their structures, their meanings, or simply depriving the individual of the environment of their achievements. Because they are activities of daily personal engagement, throughout life, changes in occupations can generate loss of meaning and reduction of the occupational repertoire by the value attributed to them. Objective: Therefore, this research aims to evaluate the Palliative Performance Scale (PPS), the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and the Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) of cancer patients on palliative care in the hospital context. Method: The methodological process consists of a quantitative and descriptive study to be performed in the palliative care unit of the Ophir Loyola Hospital (HOL), from April to October 2018. The data will be collected through the use of a research protocol, constituted of four questionnaires: a Personal Data Questionnaire, the Palliative Performance Scale (PPS), a Pfeffer's Instrumental Activities of Daily Living Questionnaire, and a Activities of Daily Living Questionnaire titled Index Katz. The hypothesis is about the submission to palliative care services, as well as the process of hospitalization and end of life, inducing changes in the performance of ADLs and IADLs, leading to a decline in the degree of functionality of these individuals. For the analysis of the data, the information collected will be stored in Excel 2007 ™ software (Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, USA) and analyzed in GraphPad Prism version 5.0 ™ software (GraphPad software, Inc., San Diego, USA). The Shapiro-Wilk test will be used to evaluate the normal distribution. Student's t-test for paired samples will be used to treat variables with normal distribution and Fisher's exact test and Mann-Whitney test will be used for variables that did not present normal distribution. Level α of 0.05 will be adopted for rejection of the null hypothesis. Results: 39 people were interviewed, being 66.6% female and 33.4% male. 25.6% reached a PPS = 40%, presenting their functional capacity impaired. In the evaluation of performance in ADLs, 38.5% of the participants were classified as dependent for all activities. In the AIVD’s performance, 84.7% presented partial dependence. The results were proportional to the individual's state of physical health. Acknowledgment: Poor functional performance is associated with several factors, being the impairment of AVD's and AIVD’s key points in this problem. The characterization of this damage and the definition of the demands involved are essential to establish precise interventions to this group, as well as to promote a good practice of the palliative cares.
