Traditionally, cassava cultivation in the Amazon is practiced via an itinerant or nomadic system, popularly known as roça. For the community of Vila Valério, it is important to record the production of this tuber, due to the sociocultural, environmental and economic importance for the local subjects. This article aims to characterize cassava production in the Vila Valério community, in the municipality of Oeiras do Pará, as a way of recording the experiences developed by farming families. Field research was carried out through semi-structured interviews, a reality notebook and in locu observation. The main results denote that for all respondents the cassava crop is the main source of income, however, families also produce other crops. The relevance of the traditional knowledge that the families have about cassava management, in addition to the perception of the need for species diversity to achieve this objective, is corroborated by the record of the existence of the agriculture-forest interface practiced in the Community.
