Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9630The study analyzes the relationship between land use and land cover and the dynamics of CO₂Flux in the vegetation of the state of Pará between 2000 and 2023, considering the role of the Amazon rainforest in regulating the carbon cycle. The introduction emphasizes that deforestation and agricultural expansion compromise the Amazon’s function as a CO₂ sink, especially in Pará, which accounts for approximately 36% of the deforestation in the Legal Amazon. The conversion of forests into extensive pastures has reduced the carbon sequestration capacity, although sustainable management systems may mitigate this impact. The research employs remote sensing, integrating data from MapBiomas (Collection 9) and MODIS imagery processed on the Google Earth Engine platform to map land-use transitions and calculate the CO₂Flux index, which combines NDVI and PRI to estimate the carbon exchange between vegetation and the atmosphere. Spatial analysis reveals that 11.76 million hectares (9.34% of the state’s area) were converted from forest to pasture, mainly along the BR-230 highway and in southeastern Pará. Forest cover decreased by 14.17%, while pastures increased by 116.6% during the study period. These results demonstrate the expansion of livestock activities over forested areas, affecting the ecological balance and regional carbon dynamics.
