Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9506The study analyzes subsistence hunting and fishing practices in the São João do Rio Cupari Community, located in the "Verde Para Sempre" RESEX (Extractive Reserve), in the municipality of Porto de Moz, Pará. It aims to understand the dynamics of biodiversity use, its impacts, and the possibilities for sustainable management. Based on observations and interviews with residents, the research reveals a high diversity of species utilized, seasonal patterns associated with the water cycle, and a strong presence of traditional knowledge. Consumption primarily consists of medium-sized mammals, as well as chelonians, fish, and birds to a lesser extent. Hunting materials and methods involve firearms and "esperas" (waiting tactics), with rare instances of trapping. Despite existing environmental awareness, there are weaknesses in community organization for management, characterized by heterogeneous practices and/or a lack of formalized regulations, which has contributed to a decline in the abundance of some species.
