Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/7526The present work seeks to highlight the urban sociability of enslaved black people, poor people, freed people and mixed race people, in Belém, in the second half of the 19th century, between 1869-1888; in what seeks to show, through newspaper sources, of the time, the meanings given by residents of the city center surroundings and the political-ideological positioning of journalists in relation to the social practices carried out by the so-called "uncivilized", as well as the police-like form of control of public authorities in prohibiting the so-called "barbaric entertainment", since the forms of entertainment enjoyed by black and poor people were considered offensive and inconvenient by the residents who lived in the vicinity of where these practices were carried out. These cultural manifestations, however, constituted important elements of cultural and social resistance for black and poor people, challenging the status quo and exposing the social tensions of the time.
