Acesso em: .http://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/1415In this study the general objective was to investigate the management of urban solid waste at Açailândia/MA city, assessing the current state of the steps (collection, transportation and disposal). Also propose procedures to its bestmanagement. To thiswas held informal interviews withemployees involved in street cleaning and the local population and positioning in relation to the problem of waste in the city;besides following the steps, observing the basic procedures and the possible impacts due this. Thus it was found that the local government does not have the technical mechanisms to ensure the operationalization of this process effectively. One of the most worrying problems in the city is related to the environmental damage because of the inadequate disposal of municipal waste, which is accumulated in a dump. However, it is noticeable that the population contributes to this situation, showing reprehensible attitudes regarding the use and management of waste they produce in the city.
