Acesso em:.http://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/1717The focus of the present work is the mineralized rocks that occur in the Villani and Timbauba de Cima exploration targets defined by the Carnavalle mining company within the neoproterozoic Seridó Fold Belt (Boroborema Province), at the border of the Rio Grande do Norte and Paraiba states. The Seridó metamorphic sequence consists of schists and muscovite- and quartz-rich rocks which have been subjected to brittle ductile deformation and also to weak to moderate hydrothermal alteration. These rocks have been metamorphosed under the amphibolites facies conditions reaching the sillimanite line. The protoliths of the schists were most likely sedimentary rocks of pellitic and graywacke nature. The muscovite- and quartz-rich rocks have been interpreted as true quartzites (Timbauba de Cima target) and pseudo-quartzites (Villani target), the latter derived from a previous phyllic alteration zone developed on a granitic body intrusive into the Seridó sequence. Chloritization, sericitization and subordinate carbonation were the main types of hydrothermal alteration induced by fluids probably exsolved from granitic systems. Shear zones could have been important pathways to the migration of these fluids. The mineralization, apparently post-metamorphism, produced disseminated oxides and sulfides.
