Despite their importance, mangrove-related topics remain insufficiently addressed in elementary education, highlighting the need for educational strategies that effectively bridge scientific knowledge and school learning. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate the contribution of science communication-based educational resources, including the educational video series Café & Manguezal, developed within the Mangrove Observatory and its Maretories Project, to elementary school students' learning about Amazonian mangrove ecosystems. A descriptive mixed-methods approach was adopted, involving 40 ninth-grade students from two public schools in the municipality of Bragança, Pará, Brazil, one located in an urban area and the other in a rural setting. Educational videos and the Mangue Cards educational game were developed and implemented during environmental education workshops. Students' learning was assessed through pre- and post-intervention questionnaires comprising both closed- and open-ended questions. The results revealed significant improvements in students' understanding of mangrove characteristics, biodiversity, ecological importance, and conservation. Students from the rural school demonstrated greater prior knowledge of the ecosystem, whereas those from the urban school showed greater learning gains following the educational intervention. Qualitative analyses also indicated conceptual development, reflecting a broader understanding of mangroves as complex ecosystems and of their importance for coastal communities.
