Through the schools it is possible to educate citizens with ecological awareness to have sustainability, through cross-cutting themes such as ecology and environmental education. The objective of this study was to verify the level of knowledge in ecology of seventh year students of a public elementary school in the city of Breves, Pará. Data collection took place during the period of January 30 and February 3, 2017. In this research we used the quantitative and qualitative approaches, as a case study, having as form a form with semi-structured questions. Previously, the Term of Free and Informed Consent was presented to the director, coordinated, teachers, students and their leaders. The results were analyzed from the Bardin Content Analysis. Were interviewed 41 students from eight seventh classes, ranging in age from 12 to 20 years. The interviewees associated Ecology with the following terms: environment, ecosystem and nature. Regarding the importance of teaching and learning in Ecology, they answered that it was important to take care of the environment, its survival and future and to obtain knowledge. As for recognizing and relating the concepts of ecology many have been successful in their responses, having more difficulty with ecosystem, biotic factors and ecological niche. And their most favorite subject was the food chain.
