Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9396The verification of the punching shear resistance of slab–column connections is a critical issue in flat slab systems. The Brazilian standard ABNT NBR 6118:2023, which has undergone a recent update, establishes design provisions for the assessment of punching shear resistance. In this study, experimental test results are compared with the estimates obtained from the 2014 and 2023 versions of the standard, using databases of experimental results. The databases comprise 67 test results of edge slab–column connections, without shear reinforcement and subjected to unbalanced moment, selected from 32 independent experimental programs. All slabs failed by punching shear, with an effective depth (d) ranging between 97 mm and 209 mm, flexural reinforcement ratio (ρ) between 0.45% and 2.14%, concrete compressive strength (𝑓) between 20.7 MPa and 84.1 MPa, and eccentricity (e) between 29.27 mm and 1221.14 mm. The performance of the standards was evaluated using the ratio of the ultimate load obtained in the test to the theoretical load calculated by the standard versions (𝑉/𝑉 ). The dispersion and trend of 𝑉/𝑉 were analyzed as a function of the parameters d, ρ, 𝑓, and e/d. The statistical analysis of the ratio between experimental and theoretical ultimate loads (𝑉/𝑉 ) revealed that both normative versions exhibit conservative behavior, with mean values of 1.51 (2014) and 1.73 (2023), respectively. The updated version showed greater dispersion (CV = 76.3% vs. 70.3%) but improved the lower safety limit (5th percentile of 0.90 vs. 0.82). The results highlight advancements in NBR 6118:2023, particularly in the treatment of slabs with large effective depths and extreme reinforcement ratios, though challenges remain in accurately predicting cases with parameters outside the conventional range. This study provides technical support for the discussion on the evolution of Brazilian standards and structural safety against brittle punching shear failures.
