Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9129The study critically reviews the different personifications of the character Baleia, in Vidas Secas, highlighting its humanization and its narrative, social and affective implications. This is a qualitative literature review with comparative analysis of three academic articles published between 2010 and 2019. The work aims to systematize and confront interpretations about the role of Baleia in the work, showing how the technique of personification, the narrator in the third person and the free indirect discourse build its centrality. The method comprises careful selection of sources, analytical reading and comparison of thematic axes (technique, social criticism and emotion), followed by critical evaluation of convergences and divergences. The study identifies consensus regarding the humanization of Baleia and its structural function in the novel, in addition to pointing out different emphases: narratological technique, Fabiano's objectification and affect as an engine of meaning. The results indicate that partial approaches tend to fragment the complexity of the character and that the integration of the narratological, social and affective dimensions offers a more robust reading, situating the misery of the backlands as a mold of the solidarity bond of the dog with the family.
