The theoretical framework is grounded in the works of Abreu (1999), Matos (1994), Batista (1929), Luciano (2011), Cascudo (2006), Romero (1888), and other significant classical and contemporary authors. This study aims to present the contribution of cordel identity in teacher education, recognizing the importance of incorporating Cordel Literature into teaching. Thus, this research adopts a qualitative autoethnographic approach, demonstrating how cordel identity can influence pedagogical actions and practices, highlighting how the cultural roots of a people, specifically popular art, can be integrated and applied in the school context. This study emphasizes the significance of valuing popular culture and cordel literature as a means of preserving memory, cultural identity, and the history of a segment of society. It also advocates for the use of cordel literature as a potential didactic resource in the classroom.
