Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9464This study presents a literature review on Geography teaching and the development of spatial cognition, highlighting its relevance for the formation of geographical thinking and for building a critical understanding of space. The main objective was to analyze theoretical contributions that support Geography education, identifying methodologies, concepts, and pedagogical strategies capable of stimulating spatial cognition in basic education students. A qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory research was carried out, based on academic works, scientific articles, official documents, and publications available in databases such as Google Scholar, SciELO, and CAPES Journals. The results showed that the use of active methodologies, such as flipped classroom, collaborative projects, and case studies, combined with digital technologies such as GIS, augmented reality, and interactive maps, promotes meaningful learning and strengthens the relationship between geographical knowledge and social reality. It was also found that teacher training is essential for the implementation of innovative practices, although challenges related to infrastructure, inclusion, and the precariousness of teaching work still limit the application of these strategies in many school contexts.
