The general objective of this study is to analyze the effect of the dissemination of image manipulation and photography techniques, facilitated by technological advances and the widespread use of mobile devices and digital applications, on the perception of reality and the construction of visual narratives. To achieve this objective, the systematic literature review methodology was adopted, with a comprehensive search in academic databases using specific keywords to select relevant studies from the last 20 years. The analysis of the selected works highlighted the democratization of photography through the popularization of digital cameras and smartphones, facilitating access and participation in the photographic act. A loss of photographic objectivity was observed due to digital manipulation of the images, questioning the authenticity and indexical relationship of the image with its referent. Furthermore, significant changes in photographic practice were identified, influenced both by the ease of obtaining and sharing photos, and by the emergence of new visual poetics and the simplification of photographic devices. This study concludes that the evolution of photography in the digital era has not only changed photographic techniques and aesthetics, but also redefined the relationship between individuals and images. The transition from analogue to digital, despite challenging traditional concepts of photography, opened up new creative and technical possibilities, expanding the role of photography in contemporary society.
