Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/8712This study aims to analyze the use of the metaphorical expression widely used in the speech of Pará, “Did the horse bite your head?”, highlighting the loss of compositionality, since the meaning of the expression is not derived from the interpretation of its individual parts, but rather from the speaker's social and cultural knowledge and inferences. For the development of the research, data and conversations were collected from social media platforms, specifically from WhatsApp and Instagram, detailing each usage context. The theoretical foundation is based on functional linguistics, considering the studies of Martellota (2003; 2021), who emphasizes that language is not fixed but malleable, shaped by the need for use, and Souza (2020), who discusses the importance of semantics for understanding meaning. This is further supported by the theory of Lakoff and Johnson (1980) on conceptual metaphor, which highlights the mapping between two domains, always involving some correlation.
