Acesso em:.https://bdm.ufpa.br/jspui/handle/prefix/6457This work analyzes the motion of a bubble in a viscous fluid using both, the conventional fluid mechanics approach and the negative mass analog approach. Using a common experimental teaching apparatus and a simplified methodology, measurements are made which corroborate with the theoretical interpretations. Taking the theoretical analysis that treats the bubble as a negative mass particle analogue the equations that describe de body movement are encountered using Newton’s laws, and following a sequence of logic considerations a model is constructed in which the effects generated by the environment on the particle are interpreted as equivalent parts of its mass. For equivalence with the fluid dynamics approach this mass must be considered negative. Using the terminal velocity obtained in the data, the characteristic of the viscous force of being a function of order n of the velocity is evidenced. In conclusion, it’s possible to use the negative mass to explain the rising movement of a bubble in a viscous fluid, pointing out that the strangeness of this concept can be attenuated by knowing the definitions of mass (inertial) and inertia; and it’s found that the viscous force possibly not depends with the first order of velocity.
