Acesso em: .https://bdm.ufpa.br/handle/prefix/9158The construction of large projects, such as the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP), has an impact on both the local population and the ecosystems affected. The implementation of this hydroelectric plant has caused profound changes in cities like Altamira, where several neighbourhoods have been classified as risk areas and their residents have been compulsorily removed. In the countryside, the construction of Belo Monte also forced the removal of indigenous and peasant communities located on the perimeter of the Xingu River, which was transformed into a reservoir. The social groups expelled from their territories formed the Ribeirinho Council of Those Affected by Belo Monte. This work, through bibliographical and documentary research, aims to analyse some of the actions of the Ribeirinho Council between 2016 and 2019. These actions involve the social recognition of those affected by the hydroelectric dam, initially prioritising the families who lived permanently in the beiradão region and who were not recognised by Norte Energia (NESA), and then the proposal to create a riverside territory to resettle the social groups expelled by the project.
